It had been years since I had watched this 'sampler' of Japanese noise acts - likely since 2020 when I was infatuated with learning how to make noise, a curious chapter indeed of my musical identity gestation, as it was quite outsider shit. It would make sense for me to entertain an hour compilation of obscure Japanese power electronics musicians now, as I've become thoroughly indoctrinated into the realm of (non-guitar) circuit-borne sound, but as for me then - I was really only in pursuit of rock-valent, guitar-centric means of weaving and exploring cryptic walls of sound. Of course, I could also be misremembering the time; it has been six years. Last Days Of Humanity, Nasum, Steer/Dorian-era Napalm Death and pornogrind acts the likes of Rompeprop and early Gut dominated my rotation and extracirricular investments in 2019 and 2020, and I'd imagine my acquaintance with Japanese noise (sometimes dubbed 'Japanoise') was through YouTube recommendations for The Gerogerigegege, Hanatarash and the like. I did enjoy the former, whereas I'd now take Hanatarash over them.
